Service Learming Meeting on Wednesday

On Wednesday we completed a project on food where we had to make up a family and plan out a shopping list. We went to Reading Terminal to go see how much it would cost to feed the family of 4 and write it down.

Independent Hours

I am almost done my Independent hours I have done 3 hours at the Constitution Center with Ms. Thompson for MLK day. I have done 3 hours babysitting my cousin. I have done another 3 hours cleaning out the basement. That is all I have done so far I need to do 4 more hours to have a complete 15 hours.

Friday Meeting (Make Up)

The article that I was reading basically said that McCaqin thinks he can beat Obama and that Hillary will not win. He was saying that he has seven ways to beat Obama at the elections and him sayng that is saying that Hillary will not be running against him. I think Obama and Hillary should run together so they can beat McCain.

Thursdays Meeting

On Thursday we went out for lunch to see what was being offered to the students if they went out for lunch. We filled out a survey saying the highest price on the menu and the lowest price. I went to Auntie Ann's and I said what they offered and their prices that were reasonable. During the meeting we reflected what happened at the restaurant.

Service Learning

So far for service learning I completed 6 hours at the Constitution Center for the event they had for MLK day. I Will be attempting to do more on Friday but I am awaiting a response from the Lady at the Lupus Foundation. She needs to see If I can get dismissed from school early on Fridays to do work in the office. There are also some events that are coming up soon in October 26 at the Carousel House in Fairmount Park. She put me on the list for that event. I have not done anything else quite yet but soon I will. I did nothing over my Spring Break besides have fun I first have to find out where the Lupus Foundation Headquarters are located before I do anything else.

For Service Learning I would be interested in doing the following
1) Lupus Foundation- I have contacted them and they have work for me to do I have to choose between Office Work and Fund raising
2) Breast Cancer Foundation- Still waiting to see when the walk for a cure event to happen
3) Juvenile Diabetes- Still waiting to here back from them to help out with their ball.
4) Stroke Victims- I am looking for a number to call to help out with fund raisers.
5) Heart disease- I am looking for a foundation that involves heart disease.

Should The adventures of Huckleberry Finn be taught in Schools

The adventures of Huckleberry Finn is banned in most schools. Some say it should be banned from schools. I believe that schools, and the school districts should let their students read the book and it should be mandatory. This book tells the hard truth. It is just about a boy making life decisions. The book also shows the right and wrong path to take.
In the story they said “By and By they fetched the niggers”. This is an example of them showing how people petreyed other human beings. In the book theyt are telling us the truth about gang aneciations. Tom Sawyer said and I quote “ Everybody that wants to join has to take an oath and sign his name in blood.
This book in a way sends a positive message. This is book is about a boy who makes decisions. Huck Finn had to make hard decisssions especially when his dad was abusing him and he had to decide weather he wanted to run away. He also had to decide weather he should kill Pap. In the book it says “I got the old split- bottom chair and clumb up as easy as I could, not to make any noise and got down the gun, I slipped the rowrod down it to make sure it was loaded and then I laid it across the turnip-barrel, pointing twards Pap” this is the choice he had to make he was ready to kill Pap.
This story holds lots of wrong and right choices to make. Such as Huck Finn joining Tom Sawyers gang. This was the wrong thing to do because of the oath which was “Everybody that wants to join has got to take an oath and write his name in blood”. Then he would turn around and got to school and learned how to read and write. He said he likedgoing to school well he didn’t say it exaclly but you could hear it in the way he spoke especially when he said “I had been to school most all the time and could spell, read, and write”. His words made it seem like he loved the fact he could read, write, and spell.
Poersons attempting to band this book will be prosecuted, persons attempting to find ways to band this book will be banished, persons attempting to change my mind about this book will be shot!
