Would You Help Me If I was Pregnant?

“Hey Ms. Sedgwick can I talk to you?” “Sure what is going on, trouble in class?” “no”, “You need working papers?” “No” “Then what seems to be the problem?” “Well…………………… I’m pregnant…………”
Constitution High School, Central High School, West Philly High School, and Frankford High School these high schools have plenty differences but the one thing that they do have in common is teenage pregnancy.
A lot of schools have especially high schools have teenage girls who are pregnant or who have kids already. Some of these girls go through a lot of judgmental remarks that people make and the last thing they need are judgmental teachers and helping staff so what would a teenage girl have to go through if she was pregnant?
High schools have procedures that a student must do if they are to become pregnant. The helping staff at Constitution High School takes many steps to make sure they fit the needs of the expecting mother. When Ms.Segwick the counselor at the school was put through an experiment to see what a student would have to do if they became with child. A student went to the counselor pretending to be pregnant so she could find out the facts hands on. When the students friends who told Ms. Sedgwick that she was pregnant she got the friends to get the student so she could talk to her. When the student went to her office she pretended to be sad and upset at the fact she was pregnant and her mom was going to kill her if she found out. Ms. Sedgwick handled the situation calmly she asked the student questions such as “Are you okay?” and “How are you feeling?”. After they meet and talked Ms. Sedgwick told her to check back in and if she didn’t that she was going to find her and call her down to talk. She gave the student a few days and when she did not hear back from her she called the student down and the first thing Ms. Sedgwick said was “So how is everything are you ok I didn’t hear from you?”. Let you be reminded that Ms. Sedgwick is the counselor of Constitution High School she deals with plenty in just one day and the fact that she remembered to call a student down to her office to talk to her. When Ms.Segwick was told that the student wasn’t really pregnant and that it was just for research she laughed about it and said “well did I pass?” and she was ensured that yes she did passed with a laugh.
Students have plenty obstacles to overcome. They have to miss school and they tend to miss plenty of work and they have to catch up on all the work they miss. The last thing they need is people at their school judging them or looking at them differently and not wanting to help them. If a student doesn’t get help from the teachers then they will fail and get left back and be a 30 year old in high school still. They will barely have a personal life because they might lose friends or their friends could come closer to them but they would be doing so much for the baby they wouldn’t have a lot of time to go to parties and hang out with friends because they have a big responsibility. Students were asked is taking care of a baby expensive? And they responded yes it takes up most of your money because you have to buy pampers clothes and all the necessities that a baby needs to survive.
Situations like the one the student put herself in can go a lot of ways the counselor could have just said ok I don’t care about you being pregnant or it could go the way it went for the student and she come and make sure that she was ok and ask her what was she going to do and does she know her options. When a school can do everything in their power to make sure that that student knows if nobody is their then they can be their support group. Pregnancy is hard itself, but being a teen a being pregnant? That must be must be something that can’t be explained in words. Students have to worry about the school not caring. Taking care of a baby and trying to do catch up work so they won’t fail. The most important thing is that they might lose friends or they might get people that judge them and that don’t want to be their friend anymore. When “Blossom” was interviewed she said something important she said “Yeah I’m a teenager and I’m pregnant but so what its nothing I can do about it now and who are you to judge me when you don’t know what I have to go through”. That quote alone says all one needs to know.
